BIOGRAPHY
Piri Thomas is a writer who grew up in an impoverished Puerto Rican family. He used the struggles and violence he experienced and interpreted them into his novel, "Down These Mean Streets".
SUMMARY
This novel had a lot of events going on, most of which involved violence or race identification.
SETTING
"Down These Mean Streets" took place in different parts of New York such as Harlem and Long Island.
CHARACTERS
The main characters were Piri Thomas, Piri's father, Piri's mother, his siblings José, James, and Miriam, Piri's girlfriend Trina, and Brew.
CONFLICT
The main conflict revolved around the race or color Piri and those around his identified as.
WORST PART
In my opinion, the worst part of the book was when Piri's mother passed.
WHAT THE AUTHOR WANTS
I think Piri Thomas wants to bring to light all the issues that revolve around color, race, and how one or others identify someone.
RECOMMENDATION / OVERALL
Overall, I would recommend this novel to anyone who's ever experienced fascism or any kind of racism because of the color of their skin or the language they speak, etc.
