STAGE 1: HUNTING AND GATHERING

  • Low longevity

  • High death rates
  • High fertility rates
  • High IMR

STAGE 2: SETTLED AGRICULTURAL FARMERS

  • High CBR, plummeting CDR
  • Population increases a lot
  • Fertility rates high, IMR decreases
  • Complex cities (mostly rural)
  • Job specialization

STAGE 3: INDUSTRIAL PHASE

  • City life (that's where jobs are)
  • Better life: health care and education
  • slight decline in CDR, CBR plummets
  • Longevity increases
  • Large population increase

STAGE 4: SERVICE SECTOR WORKING

  • Almost no farming and few factory workers
  • Rates bottom out
  • Fertility rates low, longevity increase a lot
  • Good life
  • Stable population total

POSSIBLE STAGE 5: FUTURE PREDICTING

  • CDR remains the same
  • CBR drop lower that CDR (population shrinks)
  • Increases: urbanization, education, longevity
  • Healthcare, technology, industrialization
  • Decreases: IMR, fertility rates

SO WHAT?

  • Understanding methods of population growth in different parts of the world
  • Making predictions
  • Giving insight on goals to set in order to achieve a certain level or stage
  • U.S.- describes the journeys and accomplishments we have made as a country
  • Personally: insight on how to succeed in the world today and in the future wherever I may live
