What are Deer?

  • A deer is a large grazing animal
  • The male deer is called a Buck
  • female deer are called doe.

HORNS (OR ANTLERS)

  • They are as long as your arms
  • And as heavy as a large sack of potatos
  • Only males are born with them
  • The antlers shed early winter one at a time
  • The bucks use the antlers mostly to fight other bucks

WHAT IS A DOE?

  • A doe is a female deer
  • A doe does not grow horns
  • They are slightly smaller than the buck.
  • They guard the fawns while the buck is searching for food

Fawns

  • A fawn is a baby buck or doe
  • They have spots on their fur to blend with their surroundings
  • They rely on mainly their sense of smell to detect predators
  • The fawns lose their spots when they get their first winter coat
  • Male fawns leave at age 1 and females leave at age 2

What Do Deer Like to Eat?

Deer enjoy eating flowers, grass, fruits,(Especially apples) and leaves
