DEER TRACKING

Have you ever wondered why deer go where they do.

Some people believe the moon stage affects the movement of the deer and others not so much. Do you?

For my project, I placed 2 trail cameras on an 81 acre farm. I tracked and recorded where and when the deer decided to move. I was interested in this topic because, being a hunter myself, I would like to know when the “big bucks” were out and moving.

The cameras that I used for my project were the Moultrie Ac-40 12.0 mp infrared Game camera

The first camera was place 10 feet away from a feeder. At this time of year, it is not on.

The second camera was placed in an area where the deer like to bed. This bedding area is about 2 acres.

This deer was at the fist camera on 11/12/18 at 3 am and at the second camera on 10/30/18 at 4pm. The temperature was in the mid 20s.

This deer was at the fist camera on 11/08/18 at 9am and at the second camera on 11/03/18 at 3am. The temperature was the low teens.

Here Is a brief discussion with my mentor.

In my opinion, this project wasn’t as hard as I had anticipated it, but there were a few hiccups in the process. I had to constantly check memory cards and the batteries without leaving my trace or scent. That was the hardest part.

I believe that this project needs more research to make a clear decision. This project should be done over the course of a few years or even longer.

I believe that I have learned a lot. I will continue with this project to hopefully increase my chances in seeing more deer. In conclusion, there wasn’t enough information for me to make a clear decision.
