DECOMPOSITION

  • Decomposition(or rotting)is the process by which
  • Organic Substances are broken down into
  • Simpler forms of matter.
  • All living organisms die and begin to decompose
  • Shortly after death

NITROGEN

  • Nitrogen plays a big part in decomposition.
  • Nitrogen makes proteins and we need
  • Proteins to live.
  • We couldn't have decomposition WITHOUT
  • LIVING ORGANISMS!!!πŸŒ·πŸŒΈπŸŒΏπŸΆπŸ„

SUCCESION

  • Life coming back after a series of disasters
  • There are two types; PRIMARY & SECONDARY

PRIMARY SUCCESSION

  • Primary succession is when no soil is left
  • After a disaster. This is called "bare rock"
  • The 1st life to come back is lichens and mosses
  • Ex. Volcano

SECONDARY SUCCESSION

  • When soil remains after a disaster has happened.
  • The first life to come back are lupines and lodge pole pines.
  • Ex. Landslides and wildfires

PIONEER SPECIES AND CLIMAX COMMUNITY

  • Pioneer species- the first life to come back.
  • Climax- the slowest growing but longest lasting species.
