DARK ROMANTICS

The Dark Romantics were a group of 19th century writers who explored the dark side of human nature.

Dark Romantic Characteristics include self destruction, social reform. In the existence of Satan, and ghosts. There are a lot of symbols that represent Dark Romantics.

History
During the Renaissance writers could be placed into two sub genres the Dark Romantics and Transcendentalists we are focusing on Dark Romantics. Transcendentalism began to protest for the culture and society at the time. The writers of these romantics took a different approach to the mystical aspects of the universe where that the sins were properly punished and those that are good would get rewarded.

History
The authors considered most of the dark romanticism is Edgar Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville they were called gothics. With them being gothic was creepy symbols, horrific themes. Like a red rose is a symbol of love and romance but if you change it to a black rose pis symbolizes death, and evil.

Literature
Some of the best known authors that wrote in the dark romantic genre were Edgar Allen Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Herman Melville.

Literature
One example is in Edgar Allen Poe's "tell tale heart", when a man commits murder and is compelled to confess because of the imaginary beating of the dead mans heart.

Dark Romantic themes still exist in current works of art such as books, movies, and television shows.
