  • January 6th
  • celebrates the Three Wise Men's visit to see the newborn Christ by exchanging gifts.
  • 3 kings brought gifts to Jesus on this day.
  • Belief is that the 3 kings will bring gifts to the good kids on this day.
  • children collect hay, straw or grass and place it in boxes or containers under their beds.

EPIPHANY CONT.

  • Hay, straw, and grass is an offering of food to wise men's camels
  • Good=sweets, candy, or toys bad=lump of dirt or charcoal in box
  • Tradition of wise men bring gifts is older than Santa on Christmas Eve
  • Get gifts on January 6th, not December 25th

  • Children write letters to their favorite king
  • Letters tell them how good they are and what gifts they want
  • one of the most important holidays on the Puerto Rican calendar
  • Puerto Ricans celebrate Dìa de los Reyes with a feast and parades and other festivities
