ITALIAN YOUNGSTERS FLOCK TO HELP CLEAN UP FLOOD STRICKEN VENICE

WHAT

• In early November, one of the highest ever recorded waves swept through Venice, causing widespread destruction to museums, homes, snd businesses
• A very large group of children from Venice went out of their way to help clean up their city after the flooding. This is significant because without the help of removing the garbage, the lagoon is at risk for having permanent damage to its ecosystem.

WHO

• A group of over a hundred children from Venice. The residents of Venice will benefit because the children are making the entire city cleaner and preserving cultural and historical artifacts

WHERE

• This event occurs in Venice, Italy
• The numerous lagoons between the small islands in venice

WHEN

• This event happened after severe flooding during November of 2019
• This trash and water clean up has continued to present day.
• The flooding happened during November 12, 2019
• Action must be taken as soon as possible in order to save the various sheet music snd historic manuscripts.

HOW

• The kids used anything they could use to bring water back to the lagoon and anything that was useful for picking up trash
• Volunteers used special absorbent paper to save the sheet music from being ruined

WHY...

PERSONAL REFLECTION

• I think that this is a very important event because it demonstrates how people come together in the wake of disaster.
• The volunteers’ effort to preserve historical ancient manuscripts is important because it allows future generations to enjoy and appreciate these pieces of cultural importance and history.

EMOTIONAL REACTION

• This event makes me happy because it shows that there are a lot of people that care about the earth
• I believe that it is important that we all come together to take care of our planet
• It gives me hope to see people come together when help is needed

HOW DOES IT AFFECT ME

• It kind of gives me inspiration to do even more to help the earth in any way I can

• If I had to interview anyone, I would interview one of the helpers because I would want to learn what their motivation was to pitch in and help out
• Perhaps, knowing this would allow me to continue motivating even more people
