PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ANTARCTICA SETS RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE: 64.9 DEGREES

New York Times, February 8 2020, article by Derrick Bryson Taylor, project by Nicholas Zettelmeyer

WHAT’S HAPPENING

  • At a research station in Antarctica, there was a record breaking temperature
  • The temperature was 64.9 degrees Fahrenheit.

WHERE AND WHEN

  • This happened on Thursday, February 6 2020
  • It was recorded
  • It was recorded in Esperanza, Argentina’s research station on the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula

This is newsworthy because it shows us how fast climate change is happening. If the world gets to warm it would melt sea ice. This means the tides will rise and there will be floods. Also, there will be more rain because more water evaporates. This will also cause flooding and extreme weather events. The melting sea ice will mean it leaves some animals no home. It will also screw up the weather.
