Equipment

  • Broom- Used to brush the ice
  • Rink- 42.07m long ice track
  • Stone- The smooth rock that is thrown
  • House- The rings at the end of the rink where you want to get the stone
  • Button-  The middle of the house

Scoring

  • There are 10 ends, which are like innings
  • Teams rotate shooting 8 stones
  • Points are scored if...
  • You have the closet stone to the button
  • And for every stone that is closer than your opponents

Moves

  • Guards- A shot designed to block the house
  • Draws- A shot used to get around gaurds
  • Takeouts- A shot used to knock out other stones from the house

Technique

  • Sweeping- How you sweep the ice to create a frictionless path
  • Shooting- How you slide the stone, if you want it fast or curved

Strategies

  • Hammer- the last stone
  • The hammer is the most important stone
  • You get it if you lose the last end
  • Teams try to maximize points when the get the hammer
