  • Returning veterans faced severe housing storage.
  • Levitt offered homes in small residential areas.

NEW PRODUCTS

  • Started to purchase electric household appliances.
  • washing machines, dryers, blenders, freezers, and dishwashers.

THE FAIR DEAL

  • Truman continued an economic program
  • Extension of Roosevelt's new deal
  • Congress Raised minimum wage

THE RISE OF TELEVISION

  • Early television sets were small boxes with a round screen
  • Broadcasts were black and white
  • Only 2 hours of program per week
  • "The Golden Age"

THE BABY BOOM

  • A total of 4,308,000 that year
  • In 1957, one American infant was born every 7 seconds
  • Huge population

NATIVE AMERICANS CONTINUE THEIR STRUGGLE

  • In 1934,the Indian Reorganization Act moved official policy away from assimilation
  • Continued to fight for their rights
  • Change in federal policy
