Historical Info

  • Amphetamine-first made in 1887 in Germany
  • Methamphetamine-developed in Japan in 1919
  • Was a wide use in World War II to keep troops awake
  • Was prescribed as a diet aid and to fight depression in the 1950's
  • Was established as illegal in 1970
  • Meth labs were set up by Mexican drug trafficking organizations in the 1990's

What is crystal meth?

  • Short term for crystal methamphetamine
  • Creates false happiness and well-being from inhaling/snorting through the nose
  • Decreases appetite
  • Can last to 6-8 hours, or 24 hours

  • Hot ice
  • Quartz
  • Shards
  • Stove top
  • Crystal

HOW IT's made/where it comes from

  • Man-made chemical from a plant
  • Manufactured in illegal and hidden meth labs
  • Mixes different types of amphetamine with other chemicals
  • Also creates a toxic waste

Effects

  • Short Term: swallow or snort methamphetamine for extra stimulation
  • Long Term: "speed freaks", take more and more of methamphetamine over time

Addiction

  • About 24.7 million cystyal meth abusers per year
  • 13 million teens over 12 had possession over crystal meth in 2008-529,00 regular users

What does it look like?

  • Crystalline white powder
  • Odorless, bitter tasting and dissolvable
  • White, brown, yellow-grey, orange, pink
