But school carries on...

What do you know about school during COVID?
Did schools change in any way?
Was it better or worse?

The Premier has asked students to volunteer.

THIS IS THE FIRST SLIDE OF THE SIMULATION.

- students will write in first person
- each student is playing the role of someone during a pandemic
- teachers could have students write a character here or perhaps do something related to resumes if the students play themselves

This is a good thing...

because you will get a volunteer credit!
Writing Prompt
- as always encourage students to write descriptively
- always share a few writing samples
- encourage students to read their own work out loud, or have someone read it for them

What do you think it does?
Why are you volunteering?

At a high security...

and mysterious facility.
Short prompt. Continuation from previous slide...

Screening Test

  • Physical Endurance
  • DNA Test
  • IQ Test
For this slide students must be active.
Examples
Physical Endurance - jumping jacks, running around the school.
Students could take their pulse and a lesson on mean, mode, median, and range to follow.
DNA Test - PH strip
IQ Test - Memory Game and/or puzzles (math lesson?)

You take the bus everyday.

Writing Prompt
- what do you hear, see, smell on the bus
- Durian fruit?

The power tripping guard takes his time...

Perhaps have an actual pat down. Students should feel a little uncertain. Why is everything so serious?

Then... something unusual happens...

Quick writing prompt followed by a psychology test.

Something like this...

Students decide which teacher is most trustworthy with a secret ballot.

Most trustworthy takes half the students to another room.

Least trustworthy takes half the students to another room.

You have to take a needle to keep you safe. Will you do it?

*Students who refuse the needle are forced to take it.

You are taken to a small room where a lab worker injects you with something "to keep you safe".

Teachers use the same script to describe why the injection is being given.

You are left alone...

your arm is hurting.
This is a short writing prompt.

How do you feel? What are you seeing and hearing? Are you sick?

Someone shakes your arm... you wake up.

Writing prompt.

She is tugging your arm

and rushing you down a hallway... to a security door.
Writing prompt.

Consider finding sound effects...

Iggy Speaks

Iggy's voice could be recorded.

Students hear a recording. It is inside their heads.

"My name is Iggy. Don't panic."

Iggy Explains

Students will paraphrase what Iggy says. Students will compare memories.

"Six months ago wide spread transmission of COVID from humans to animals began. The first recorded transmission was at the primate section of the Winnipeg zoo. This new variant is far more virulent. The zoo keeper who contracted the disease developed a cough and rash and within 48 hours he was intubated. He began to experience gran mal seizures before a series of severe heart attacks. The World Health Organization has monitored the spread. It is now in 82 countries, impacting on all mammals. They predict a human extinction event within the next 30 years."

Time Travel

is humanity's best option.
Students learn that time travel is the best option to fix humanity's problems.

This is a lot to process...

and sounds of arguing don't help.
Students hear arguing... this is the prompt to move from mindfulness to reality.

There are two people arguing. You overhear their conversation.

Writing prompt based on the reading "The Mechanics of Time Travel".

After they are done writing there is a loud gunshot... followed by silence...

IGGY SPEAKS

"This is Iggy. Don't panic. You cannot pick the locks but you can smash the door down. The door will require 500 Newtons of force. Force is calculated using mass and acceleration using the formula f=ma. You can probably accelerate an object at 15m/s squared. You have to determine the mass of the object needed to generate enough force to open the door."

QUESTION
What can someone who has small pox do to increase his chance of survival?

Alternate Futures

You cured small pox and changed the historical timeline. 90% of Indigenous people were killed by diseases brought by settlers. Without small pox the First Peoples of North America resisted colonization and now rule the world.

What would a world ruled by an indigenous worldview look like?

Alternate Destinies

You changed history. Without small pox, Indigenous people dominated most of the world. The Russian Revolution occurred because Rasputin survived the attack on his life. As a result the United Indigenous Peoples of the World went to war with the Soviet Union. The resulting war involved nuclear weapons.

What is it like to return to a planet destroyed by nuclear war?
