WOMENS ROLE

  • When men left for the military, there were not enough men to fill the factories
  • So, women started to work in the factories
  • Women produced aircraft engines, tanks, trucks, and small artillery

CHALLENGES

  • They worked six days a week
  • Had limited holidays
  • They were pressed to work overtime to keep the assembly line going

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Production doubled with the help of women
  • The military produced:
  • 300,000 aircraft, 12,000 ships
  • 86,000 tanks and 64,000 landing craft
  • They wouldn't have been able to do it without women

  • Rose Will Monroe:
  • worked in a factory and played the part of Rosie the Riveter
  • Olive Ann Beech:
  • Managed Beech Aircraft wartime production, she trained 14,000 workers
