HOW MANY ARE EXPECTED?
- Around 7,500 pay phones are expected to be replaced with wifi hotspots.
- 500 by July this year

PROS
- Replace phone booths that become less and less of a benefit to the people of the city.
- Free wifi might help carriers by taking some strain off their overloaded networks.
- Free wifi which allows less use of data for phone carries
- Speed up to 1,000 megabits a second, which is 100 times faster than average wifi
- Offers access to city services and directions
- Ex: a two hour movie could be downloaded in 30 seconds
- Companies can promote/advertise with the hotspots digital display
- Wifi range is 150 feet in any direction and up to 250 devices could use the hotspot at the same time
- Able to charge your phone

- This wifi Project is known as link NYC
- Project funded by the Companies Citybridge, Qualcomm, and Titan
- invested over $200 million dollars in the project
CONS
- Certain hotspots will be overcrowded
- More people will be on their phones
- Over crowding of people in an area
- Increase in taxes
- Lack of internet security (They can see what you search)
- Pricey operation
- Less public phones for use in nyc
- Over 250 devices using the hotspot could make it crash
