FACTS ABOUT THE GREEN FLASH

• Occurs more commonly at sunset
• Can occur during sunrise
• Only lasts a second or two
• From the oceans reflection its viewable
• The light entering the wave is bent downward in to the water and it can't escape

A FLASH ON THE WATER THAT ONLY LAST ONE OR TWO SECONDS

• It's actually a atmospheric event that causes a green bar to appear
• To the untrained eye green flashes look the same
• The green flashes last the longest of all the flashes
• If you want to see the green flash on get head to the higher latitudes

The green flash appears in the raft when Robbie is sad about another day without food, or water, and she was watching the sunset when she sees it. She was very excited because she ha never seen one before.

I think the author included the green flash in The Raft, because Robbie was having a bad day thinking about how she had to kill the seal, and how she had gone another day without food, and water. They included it because it made Robbie's day better, and it told her they there would not be any rain the next day.
