PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Why

Why bother?

Think.....Pair.....Share....

An Old Old technique that still works well.
Think......silence while you think
Pair ...discuss your ideas
Share with the whole group.

WHAT DOES STUDENT CENTERED MEAN?

Have you ever really thought about it.
You should every time you teach.
The old way was teacher centered.
You stood in front of the class and gave directions or lectured and then they went to work.
But students can't attend to a lecture for more than a few minutes so now you break it up with ideas like
think-Pair -Share
Give students more control

Are your students engaged in their own learning?

How can you tell you are on the right tack?
Engaged.
Look at them. You can tell . If many are not, better come up with a more active plan.

Choice

Choice
Any assignment might have a choice in how you show understanding. Give your students options. They will be more fully engaged.

Not only 3 D printer

Maker Movement
You do not have to have a 3 D printer to allow your students to create.

Please do not assign a poster as the only choice.
They could make a video
Or a Haiku Deck
Or ....?

Is it too dangerous?

Group Work

If students don't like group work its because some do all the work while others contribute little.

Let them assign tasks for everyone.
Watch them

Let them grade their members. If several not that one did nothing, talk to that student and ask about their contribution.

In fact, have each of them tell you their contribution
