SEDIMENTARY ROCK

• Formed by layers of sediment
• people make arrowheads out of them
• weather and water causes rocks to break down
• formed on the bottom of lakes and oceans
• marble is metamorphic rock

IGNEOUS ROCK

• over 700 types of igneous rock
• The first rock on Earth
• it forms when magma cools
• one of the rocks it creates is basalt
• magama can be forced into rocks

METAMORPHIC ROCK

• pushes rock to the center of the Earth
• any rock can be changed into Metamorphic
• heats up to 150 degrees C and 200 degrees C
• the deeper a rock is buried,the greater the pessure
• heat and pressure create metamorphic rock

MINERAL

• over 3,000 minerals
• main building block in the rock cycle
• minerals must have all 5 characteristics
• gold is a mineral
• is sometimes made of one chemical element

ROCK CYCLE

• it has no specific path
• series of processes inside Earth
• slowly changes all the rocks
• the rock cycle can take hundreds of years
• you can tell the difference between rocks
