ARCHITECTURE

  • Architecture was very important in Ancient Rome.
  • Roman architecture continued the legacy left by the earlier architects of the Greek world.
  • The Roman respect for this tradition and their particular reverence for the established architectural orders, especially the Corinthian, is evident in many of their large public buildings.
  • That is why architecture is so important in Rome

BULLA

  • The bulla is a good luck charm and it goes around the babies neck.
  • The children wear the Bulla throughout childhood.
  • The Bulla is a very important part in a babies life.

CARTHAGE

  • Carthage is a very important key to Roman history.
  • The beginnings of Carthage date back to the Phoenicians, who were people in the Middle East inhabiting Phoenicia, the region today known as Lebanon.
  • The Phoenicians established themselves as a sea-faring people early on, dominating much of the sea trade of the Mediterranean.

DICTATOR

  • A dictator is a ruler with power over a country.
  • One dictator in Rome was Julius Ceasars, which you will learn about later.
  • Also dictators remove certain rights from people.
  • That is a common role of a dictator.

EDUCATION

  • In Rome your education depended on what type of family you were in.
  • Most poor kids work instead of learning.
  • If you were wealthy you were most likely tutored.
  • That is the education that roman kids get.

FASHION

  • Roman men generally wore two garments, the tunica and the toga.
  • The tunica was a short woolen under garment with short sleeves.
  • Men had to wear a long tunic with long sleeves.
  • That is why fashion is so important in Rome

HOUSING

  • Roman houses were very well-built, if you were rich.
  • If you were a poor you had very small apartments or flat houses.
  • The flat houses were called insulae and only contained two rooms.
  • The Roman houses were very important to Roman lifestyle

ITALY

  • Italy is shaped like a boot on the map.
  • Rome is now Italy today.
  • That is why Rome is very important to Italy.

JULIUS CEASAR

  • Julius Caesar was a very important Roman dictator.
  • His grandnephew, Octavian became Cesar Augustis, who was the supreme ruler of the Roman empire.
  • Also Julius Caesar helped expand the Roman empire by invading Britain and destroying Gaul.
  • Julius Ceasar was a very important person in Rome.

KILL

  • Rome fought in many wars so you had to kill.
  • The main war were the Punic wars, between the Romans and Carthage.
  • There were three Punic wars between Carthage and Rome.
  • That is why I put kill for K.

LANGUAGE

  • The Romans language was Latin, but very different.
  • Latin is a language that not many people speak today.
  • The type of Latin Romans spoke was Vulgar Latin.
  • That is why the Romans language was so different.

MEDICINE

  • The Ancient Romans, like the Ancient Greeks and Ancient Egyptians, made a huge input into medicine and health.
  • Though their input was mainly concerned with public health schemes.
  • Roman Medicene was a huge impact on Rome's health.

NORTH AMERICA

  • North America was a very important factor to Ancient Rome.
  • Rome was in a war with Ancient Rome.
  • The Romans won the war.
  • That is the relationship of Ancient Rome.

OCTAVIAN

  • Octavian was Julius Ceasar grandnephew.
  • Octavian was the supreme ruler of Ancient Rome.
  • Octavian became Ceasar Augustus.

PLEBIANS

  • The Plebians were very poor.
  • They were like slaves to the patricians.
  • The Plebians finally took revolt and made the patricians work for themself.
  • The Plebians were very poor and bossed around.

RELIGION

  • Religion was very important to ancient Rome.
  • The Romans adopted many Greek gods.
  • They also adopted gods from other cultures To create a group of Roman gods.
  • That is why religion is so important in Rome.

SLAVES

  • Slaves were treated as workers in Rome.
  • Slaves in Rome might also be war prisoners
  • They would raise money by selling children into slavery.
  • Slaves were treated very bad.

THERMOYLAE

  • A Thermopylae is a narrow passage on the east coast of central Greece.

WAR

  • War was very important in Rome.
  • The Punic wars were the biggest.
  • The Punic wars had three wars.
  • There are many other wars but the Punic is the most important.

YAK

  • A yak is a large domesticated ox.
  • Rome used yak for work.
  • They were very helpful because they could haul heavy things.

GOVERNMENT

  • In Rome there was a democratic government.
  • The government came from Athens, which is in Greece.
  • The basic principles came from Greece but Rome use them and change them a bit.
  • That was the Roman government.

  • Zama was a battle in Rome.
  • It marked the end of the second Punic war.
  • It was a very important war in Roman history.
