THE TELESCOPE: 1608

A 406 year journey of its evolution

To this day no one really knows who invented the first telescope but we know about Hans Lippershey, an eyeglass maker. Who was the first person to apply the patent for the telescope in 1608.

One day Hans saw two boys in his shop who held up two eyeglasses in front of each other which made things look a lot closer. He thought about this.

He drew some plans and tried to create a magnifying tool.

He started the creation and was trying to build concave eyepiece aligned with a convex objective lens.

And he had done it. He'd created a telescope that magnifies the object three times closer. Later the Netherlands Government found out about his discovery and paid him some money to make some more copies.

The Telescope: 2014

The telescope today

Today we have the Hubble Space Telescope, it is 100 million times more sensitive than Galileo's telescope.

Its hard for us to identify one individual creator of the modern day telescope. I think that multiple people worked on improving the telescope over time.

People experimented with different types of lens combinations that included concave and convex lenses.

They worked on it for many years and came up with solutions to many of the identified problems.

It took over 20 years to finish the hubble space project and after all that hard work they now how a better and clearer view of space.
