REBELLIOUS CHILDHOOD

• Disobeyed his parents
• Dropped out of school
• Became a drunkard
• Broke city curfew
• Had many parties
• Never cared for his actions

CHILDHOOD DREAMS

• Dreamed of becoming a knight
• Wanted to fight for Assisi
• Didn't want to be a cloth merchant
• Never looked toward Christ

RELIGIOUS UPBRINGING

WAR AND IMPRISONMENT

• War in Assisi during 1202
• Francis joined the cavalry
• He was captured and imprisoned
• Two stories
• First:He heard God speak to him
• Second:Joined fourth crusade
• Got a vision to return home
• Lepard story

CHURCH OF SAN DAMIANO

• Francisco experienced Christ again
• He Went to the Church to reflect
• It was destroyed
• Once while praying he felt Christ
• He was told to rebuild the church

GOD THE FATHER

• After the encounter he went for money
• He stole his fathers cloths
• Sold them for money.
• His father brought him to the bishop
• He renounced his father
• Proclaimed God is his true father

RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE

WORK IN POVERTY

• Gave up lavish life
• Became a humble servant of jesus
• Lived with morality and understanding
• Begged for his "Daily Bread"

FRANCISCAN ORDER

• Order began with 12 followers
• They would spread the ministry
• They put others before them
• Grew to around 5000 followers before his death

• He traveled to spread the ministry
• Spoke numerous masses a week
• Traveled to the sultan
• Almost converted him with fire
• Preached to many animals
• Blessed many animals
