Impetigo

IMPETIGO

  • Highly contagious skin infection that causes red sores and brown crusts on the face and is not genetic
  • Symptoms: red rashes, pimples, blisters, itching, pus, or swollen lymph nodes
  • heal slowly and scars are rare. The cure rate is high, but the problem comes back in children
  • It may lead to infection in other parts of the body, kidney failure, permanent skin damage
  • Treatment is antibacterials and is more common in children

Keloid

KELOID

  • Raised scars after an injury has healed
  • Lumpy or ridged, some people may experience darkening of skin
  • Treatment: Freezing, laser treatment, surgical removal, radiation and corticosteroid injections
  • Not harmful, may become flatter and less visible
  • Most keloids occurs sporadically but some are familial

Mole

MOLES

  • Moles do not change, are round, one color and are often black/brown
  • If multi colored or not round they might be at a higher risk of developing a melanoma
  • occur during adolescence or childhood, it is rare to develop a mole during adulthood
  • If the mole may be cancerous, or it bothers the patient the dermatologist will either surgically remove it or with a blade
  • If the mole grows back that means it is a cancerous mole; melanoma
  • Moles can be genetic especially if someone else had melanoma, it can also be congenital

Pediculosis

PEDICULOSIS(LICE)

  • Can be transmitted from person to person through contact, pediculosis is lice that cause irritation
  • Symptoms include itching breaking of the skin, usually occur in hair, back of the ears, and genital areas
  • Not genetic
  • Any age/demographic can be infected
  • It does not go away until proper treatment is taken to kill all lice and their eggs
  • Doctors may remove it if it is excessive, if it is mild then there are shampoos with special combs to get rid of the lice.

Pruritus

PRURITUS

  • It is a symptom of different diseases
  • Described as excessive itching
  • Common in pregnant women, diabetics, and people with seasonal allergies
  • Treatment is finding the underlying cause of the irritation and fixing that
  • May flare up if the wrong drug is taken which may cause even more itching
  • This disease is not genetic
  • Keeping your skin clean can help avoid pruritus

Psoriasis

PSORIASIS

  • Symptoms include flaking, inflammation, and thick, white, silvery, or red patches of skin
  • chronic skin condition caused by an overactive immune system
  • May cause pain in the joints
  • Treatment is to remove the rashes and topical ointments to relive the itching, however there is no cure
  • may flare up due to infections, cold weather, stress, smoking, and some medications
  • Family history and obesity may increase the risk of psoriasis
