WHO AM I?

  • I like to draw.
  • I like to play video games.
  • I like to bake.
  • I like to build.
  • I like to read.
  • I like to play sports.
  • I like to garden.
  • I like to paint.

PRIMARY LEARNERS

  • We must first spend time getting to know our students.
  • This could consist of doing informal surveys. For example, "raise your hand if you like to read".
  • A graph, collage, or list can be created, after the survey is completed, to depict these student interests.
  • Photographs of the students and their families can be posted around the classroom to create dialogue and gain a better understanding of the students.

PRIMARY LEARNERS

  • Each student brings something special and unique to the classroom.
  • All students can learn from one another.
  • Each student works at their own pace.
  • Students are encouraged to be independent thinkers.
  • Students can focus on their specific interests.
  • Students are social beings that thrive with attention, kindness, patience and respect.

A classroom is like a garden...
There are a multitude of plant and flower varieties and each one requires different conditions for optimal growth. Some require full sun, some require shade and yet some others require sun and shade. Each student is like a flower or plant, each requiring something different to flourish. The Teacher is responsible for cultivating their interests and needs and hopefully allowing them to become the best possible version of themselves!
