PRACTICAL PROPORTION

  • We want to learn how to draw a portrait (face)
  • Our portraits must be in PROPORTION...(?)
  • So...where are our eyes, nose, mouth and ears?
  • Hold one hand on your head and one on your chin...
  • Look at someone else's features

TRYING IT OUT

FOLLOW THESE STEPS...

1 : FOLD

FOLD YOUR PAPER IN HALF BOTH WAYS

2 : FOLD AGAIN

FOLD UP FROM THE BOTTOM JUST OVER HALFWAY

3 : FOLD AGAIN!

FOLD UP FROM THE BOTTOM TO JUST OVER HALFWAY AGAIN

DRAWING

  • Draw the top of a circle from the top to the half way fold
  • Draw an oval shape from there to the bottom
  • Flatten it a little for the chin
  • Measure five equal spaces across the horizontal half way fold
  • Mark these with light pencil marks

DRAWING 2

  • Mark in 2 almond shapes for the eyes between the 2nd and 4th space
  • Draw in the pupils
  • Draw a dotted line from the tear duct straight down
  • Draw another from the centre of the pupil straight down
  • This will give you the nose and mouth guide

DRAWING 3

  • Use the dotted lines and folded lines to mark in the nose base and mouth
  • Add eyebrows a little above the eyes
  • Remember to leave enough room for the eye lid - look at your partner
  • Add ears from the brow line to the base of the nose
  • Show the neck from the base of the ears down

HOW DID WE DO?
