COMMON MISTAKES

  • To much of a gun angle
  • Voltage and wire speed
  • To much/not enough stick out
  • Not clean metal

GASES

  • 100% Argon
  • Argon/Helium
  • Only use Helium on metal thicker than 1/2 inch. Helium burns hotter and penetrates deeper.
  • Too much Argon creates erratic arc.

MIG VS TIG

  • 1/8 or thicker: Mig
  • Thinner than 1/8 or pipe: Tig
  • Long production welds: Mig
  • Small structural welds: Tig

PUSH VS PULL

  • Push: ->
  • Pull:
  • Push aluminum; Welding into the shielding gas rather than away from it.

OVER HEATING ALUMINUM

  • It is difficult to detect because the molten pool does not look much different than the base metal.
