HYPOTHERMIA

Untitled Slide

  • Hypothermia is when your core body temperature drops below 35 degrees C.
  • When you get hypothermia your organs slow down and eventually stop.
  • When people get hypothermia they might think they don't have it or worse think there hot so they take there clothing off or wear summer clothing.

Untitled Slide

  • To treat hypothermia you want to call 911. Then restore warmth slowly. Third you want to give the person a sugary warm drink like hot chocolate or begin CPR if necessary. Finally you want to keep the body temperature up and keep the person dry.

And How to Avoid Them

RADIATION

  • Radiation is when your body is in a cold climate and it's trying to equalize the temperature around you by giving off heat.
  • You can prevent radiation by insulating your body with thick clothing.

CONDUCTION

  • Like radiation your body is trying to equalize the temperature between and a solid, liquid, or gas.
  • Did you know your body loses heat about 30 times faster in water because of evaporation.
  • You can prevent conduction from insulating your body from the ground in any way like putting evergreen bows between you and the ground when your sleeping.

CONVECTION

  • Convection happens when air bushes against you and then the air takes the heat with it.
  • You can prevent convection by insulting your body with a wind proof outer shell.

EVAPORATION

  • Evaporation is when water comes of your body when the water does this it takes heat with it.
  • You can prevent evaporation by staying dry and not sweating.

RESPIRATION

  • When you breathe in you take in cold air and when you breathe out you breathe out hot air.
  • You can't stop your self from breathing but you can put a light covering over your mouth and nose

FIRE BUILDING

Untitled Slide

  • Before you go to a place where you can get lost or stuck you want to make a survival kit one thing you want to put in a survival kit is a magnesium block for lighting a fire
  • To make a fire in the snow you have to dig out a hole in the snow then find anything dry and put the hardest things to burn on the bottom.

Untitled Slide

  • To light the fire you want to strike the magnesium block with the striker and then gently blow on the fire.
  • Then just keep adding dry things to the fire.

SHELTER BUILDING

Untitled Slide

  • Add rope and a brightly colored thing to your survival kit.
  • Take 2 logs and make a X shape and tie them together with rope. Then on top of the part where the two logs meet put a third log down the middle. Then put sticks up the side and cover the inside and outside with leafs. You can also put anything else soft in the inside.

SHELTER BUILDING

  • Find an easily shatter able rock. Then find a hard and non breakable rock. If you bang them together you can get a sharp flake to come of to make a knife.
  • To make a spear you can sharpen a stick.
  • To make a hammer you can find a blunt rock.

HYDRATION

Untitled Slide

  • Add something to hold water to your survival kit.
  • To find a form of water that's not steam (water, ice, snow) go down hill because water flows down and you can find snow and ice any where.

Untitled Slide

  • Put the water, ice, or snow in your thing that holds water and boil it. You can also run the water through dirt, grass, or sand and then drink it. When filtering water hold the filtering material in your hand over the thing that holds water then run the water through it.

TEA

  • Even though tea isn't food it still kind of is because tea provides you hydration and nutrients.
  • To make tea you take water then boil it then you add pine needles to the boiling water. That's one way to make tea but you can add other things to it too.
  • If you break off a twig from a birch tree you can chew on it and if it has flavor it means you can make tea with it.
  • There is also many other ways to make tea.

RABBIT SNARE

  • Add a rope to your survival kit.
  • Find a rabbits trail then prop up a branch against something over top of the rabbits trail. Then make a loop with rope as big as your fist and tie it to the branch.
  • You can also use sticks to funnel the rabbit.
