SITUATIONAL IRONY

An occasion in which the outcome is significantly different from what was expected or considered appropriate

VERBAL IRONY

irony in which a person says or writes one thing and means another

DRAMATIC IRONY

THE AUDIENCE KNOWS SOMETHING THAT THE ACTOR DOESNT.

FORESHADOWING

be a warning or indication of (a future event).

SITUATIONAL IRONY

  • A man who is a traffic cop gets his license suspended for unpaid parking tickets.
  • Marriage counselor files for divorce

VERBAL IRONY

  • "Clear as dirt"
  • Saying, "Oh, fantastic!" When the situation is actually very poor

DRAMATIC IRONY

  • In a movie the audience knows that there is a monster under the bed, and the actor doesn't and they look under the bed
  • We know (the reader or audience) what the actor doesn't

FORESHADOWING

  • When the author leaves hints throughout a movie or book hinting about future events.
  • In "Endangered" Sophie's mom hinted about them having to relocate earlier in the book.
