Desires

  • Reading was one of her desires.While she's delivering the laundry to Ilsa Hermann, she would read in Ilsa's library.
  • Learning was also her desire. She learnt with Han at the basement. Although she couldn't read and write at the beginning, she keeps stealing books to read and learn.

Motives

  • Her hatred toward Hitler was her motive to steal. She knew Hitler took away her father, so stealing a banned book was a defiance to Hitler.
  • She realized the power of words, it could cause evil and show the goodness. In the end of the book, Liesel wrote"I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right."(528). So using the word to create goodness was her motive.

Strengths

  • Liesel was brave. In the Fuhrer's party, "she snatched the book from beneath a steaming heap of ashes." It was a banned book, she's barve to steal that book
  • Liesel was hard-working, she learned read and write at night with Han.

Weaknesses

  • Liesel's brother's death was her weakness. She had nightmares about her brother every night. "She would wake up swimming in her bed, screaming, and drowning in the flood of sheets."(41)
  • When she moved to the Himmel street, "they discover that she couldn't read or write". Her classmates tease her because of that. But later on, her papa taught her
