what is Interpersonal communication?

  • It is a special form of Human Communication.
  • It occurs when two people interact.
  • Focus on face-to-face encounters.

The quality

  • Different communication with friend versus a stranger.
  • May not occur when interacting with someone.
  • Occurs when treating someone as a human being.

Mutual Influence

  • Means that both partners are affected by interaction.
  • Doesn't mean it involves persuasion.
  • Asking a question to someone and assuming they hear you.

Manage relationships

  • Relationships are ongoing connection made through interpersonal communication.
  • The term relationship signals something serious and romantic.
  • We initiate and form relationships through communication.
