The USA Patriot Act was signed into law by President George W. Bush in October 2011. It allowed roving wiretaps, searches of business records, surveillance of "lone wolves" and mass phone data collection.

CRIMINAL or PATRIOT? In 2013, former CIA contractor, Edward Snowden, copied and leaked classified information from the NSA without authorization. His disclosures revealed numerous global surveillance programs, with the cooperation of telecommunication companies and European governments.
