GENESIS 2:15-24

Marlee Hale Theology Project

GENESIS 2:15

  • The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
  • This means that God put the man into the garden to keep it safe and take care of it and to also work on it.

GENESIS 2:16

  • And the Lord God commanded the man " You are free to eat from any tree
  • God told the man he was allowed to eat off of any of the trees .

GENESIS 2:17

  • But you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good, evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.
  • He told the man he would die if he ate from certain trees.

GENESIS 2:18

  • The Lord God said "It is not good for me to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."
  • God thinks it wasn't a good idea to leave the man alone so he gave him a helper.

GENESIS 2:19

  • Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the birds in the sky. He brought them to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

GENESIS 2:20

  • So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.
  • The man gave all the livestock and animals names but there wasn't a helper found for Adam.

GENESIS 2:21

  • So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the mans ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.
  • God put the man into a deep sleep, while he was sleeping he took out one of the mans ribs and closed up the open flesh.

GENESIS 2:22

  • Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
  • From the rib he took from the sleeping man, he made a woman and brought her to the man.

GENESIS 2:23

  • The man said, " this is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman', for she was taken out of man.
  • He told the woman that her bones and flesh are his also and because she was made part of man, she is called a woman.

GENESIS 2:24

  • That is why the man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
  • The man left his mother and father to now be with his wife, the woman who he shares bone and flesh with, so now they are one flesh.
