In our design, we recognized that there will be an increase in population by 2075. For this reason, we made our house in a dome shape and partially underground. This will make it easier for more houses to be built to allow for the population growth. We also predict that people will not be having as many children, which is why the house is smaller than normal.
Urbanization will increase by the year 2075. According to the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in 2014, "Today, 54 per cent of the world’s population lives in urban areas, a proportion that is expected to increase to 66 per cent by 2050." This number will only increase as time goes on and urban locations, the setting of modernization and job opportunities, will continue to rise in popularity. People will be migrating from rural areas and from other countries to cities. With the growing population, cities will be more densely packed. We created our model to accommodate this growing urbanization by making our house underground. By having only the dome above ground, it makes for the house to take up less space. Using less space will be vital in designing houses in 2075 due to the decreasing amount of space in urban settings caused by population.
We predict that people will be more energy efficient by 2075. Due to this we added solar panels to the roof of our house, which will allow the people living inside to get what they need from the sun's rays. This, along with hydroelectric energy will be very important to the people. Also, due to global warming, the temperature will increase by a predicted 0.5 degree Celsius. The house was made smaller and will be using smart appliances to lower energy use and become more cost effective.
We believe in the future, a new style will be to have houses underground. Since many of these houses will be built for the sake of a decreasing amount of space, it will become popular to have a house like this. As hard as it may seem for us to believe now that underground houses will ever be a prominent design, there have been houses built partially underground, so as time goes on and people seek more land for building homes, they will expand upon this already existing design and make houses completely underground. In our floor plan, we have two bedrooms, and two bathrooms, and one kitchen. We also have two living rooms, because we believe as electronics increase in technological advancement, people will spend more time by themselves on technology, so the residents of our house can do that in these rooms. Our style also gives people their own space, something that will be sought after. We also are designing houses in the shape of animals.
Originally we had a design in the shape of a dome with a regular rectangular floor plan underneath all of that. Mr. Smith suggested that we make our house in the shape of a turtle. At first we were all very confused by this, but then we decided to test it out and this design really worked. It fit all of the needs of a house in 2075. It also allows the people of that time period to express themselves through the animal or object that their house is shaped like.
We believe that our design will be the ideal home for people of the future. It is very livable, accommodating, and comfortable. It is likely that houses built underground will increase in popularity by 2075. Having a house shaped like an animal is not a probable style in the future, though it will probably be attempted. Our house and floor plan take what is popular in this day and age, such as having a family room, bedrooms, bathrooms, and a living room, but go far beyond that and are up to speed to 2075 according to projected population growth, urbanization, energy efficiency, and changing tastes in design. What more could a future home owner want!?
