PALEONTOLOGY

  • Paleontology is the study of fossils that can tell us about the past.
  • Paleontology also includes biology, geology, ecology, anthropology, and archaeology.

PALEONTOLOGIST STUDY...

  • Paleontologists study body fossils and trace fossils that could range anywhere from dinosaur bones, seashells, and human bones. Trace fossils can tell us if their was an organism living on this land at one time.

RELATIONS TO PALEONTOLOGY

  • Micropaleontology- the study of microscopic fossils
  • Paleobotany- the study of plant fossils.
  • Palynology- study of pollen and spores.
  • Invertebrate Paleontology- study of invertebrate animal fossils (mollusks)
  • Vertebrate Paleontology- study of vertebrate fossils (fish)

RELATIONS TO pALEONTOLOGY

  • Human Paleontology (Paleoanthropology)- study of prehistoric human.
  • Taphonomy- study of decay, preservation, and fossils in general.
  • Ichnology- study of footprints, trails, and tracks.
  • Paleoecology- study of ecology no climate in the past.
