OF THE 1960S

The Civil Rights Movement:
- In 1965, President Johnson passed a bill giving blacks the right to vote, naming it The Voting Rights Act.
- Lyndon Johnson signed the Fair Housing Act in 1968

Movies:
- In 1967 the last Disney supervised film, The Jungle Book was released in box office

Music:
- The "British Invasion" begins February 7, 1964 when mentioned by a CBS evening news cast
- The "Revolver" album by the Beatles, which was released in the year 1966, is the most sold album of the 60s with over 5 million copies

Fashion:
- January 1960: Bouffant look for dresses became popular. The dress had a cinched waist and a poofed out skirt.
- January 1963: Mary Quant releases a fashion line and designed mini skirts, colored tights, and wet look vinyl fashions.

Politics and Government:
1. John F. Kennedy becomes president. (Jan. 20 1961)
2. President Kennedy is assassinated, and Lyndon B. Johnson is sworn in. (Nov. 22, 1963)
3. President Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act. (1964)
