Containment- the US policy of attempting to restrict Soviet power and influence around the world by preventing the spread of communism

Viet Cong- communist insurgents in South Vietnam

Vietnam War- the war between North and South Vietnam from the early 1950s to 1975

Deterrence- the policy of building a weapons arsenal so deadly that no other nation will dare attack

The Cold War was the fuel behind future wars, revolutions, and social unrest. It molded the political and economic systems of different countries. It was the start of space exploration and many nuclear weapons. However, most importantly, the world entered a new era; where many countries' interests influence world events, not just the two superpowers.
