WHAT IS A CLOUD FOREST?

  • Also called fog forest; Is a type of eco system generally tropical. Moist forest characterized by a persistent, frequent cloud cover, usually at the canopy level.

  • It rains very frequently in those areas, most of the time during the year. The temperatures vary between 8 to 20 °C. That means that the land is left extremely humid, and causes precipitation. And precipitation plus sunlight causes the fog.

  • In comparison with lower tropical moist forests, cloud forests show a reduced tree stature combined with increased stem density and generally the lower diversity of woody plants.

SPECIES

  • The high moisture promotes the development of a high biomass and biodiversity of plants and different types of flowers. Like; orchids, fynbos and others.
  • There are not only plants there, but also a diversity of animals.
