Civil rights act of 1957

Intended to protect the right of African Americans to vote.
Several Southern senators did not try to stop the civil rights act of 1957
Also created the US commission on civil rights to investigate allegations of denial of voting rights.

Civil rights act of 1964

Focused on segregation and job discrimination
Even after it was passed voting rights were far from secure.
bombing in African American businesses and churches convinced a new law for their safety.
