CATHARINE BEECHER

EARLY LIFE

• September 6th , 1800 in East Hampton , New York
• Daughter of Lyman Beccher & Roxanna Beecher
• Sister to Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Ward Beecher & Harles Beecher
• Home schooled until the age of 10, attended a private school in Litch field, Connecticut
• She taught herself math, Latin , and philosophy due to limited education for girls.

Catherine Beecher's family had a large impact on American's educational history in the late 1800's

After the mothers death, Catherine took on the household responsibilities at the age of 16. The younger children looked up to her and still kept close with her father, even thought he remarried a year later.

Reason for Education
Beecher longed for gender equality , especially through education. She believed that all women and girls should have essential background from learning.

In 1823 Beecher founded and established a private girls' school, Hartford Female Seminary. Teaching about their health and food diets.

She wrote books due to lack of educational text books for her school, including arithmetic, theology, and mental / moral philosophy.

In 1878 at the age of 77, Catherine Beecher died from apoplexy, which is when you bleed integrally within your origins.

During the influential greek period , they brought the idea that of a healthy mind and a healthy body depended on each other through out history.

Physical Education amongst women was not found as important as it was men. Eventually the idea caught on and women had similar rights.

Luther Halsey Gulick taught people that importance of physical education through his writings,dance recreations, and his help with the YMCA.

The industrialization industry boomed for physical education when the necessity for new sports equipment become dire.

Communication
Communication of physical education was not as widely promoted as it is now. Modern promotion throughout the United States has been made by leaders of the country. They've set presidential tests to challenge students and motivate them.
