Broadway History
In 1811 the people building New York planned a huge part of a grid which is now Manhattan, Broadway was born!

Before the U.S. entered World War One plays didn't focus on reality or social issues, it was just fun! After the war it was the "ticket" out of the real world

"THE GREAT WHITE WAY"

That is a nickname for Broadway, people producing the plays used bright lights to advertise their plays, and they still use this technic today

There were many plays/musicals that found success on Broadway

Movies were taking over the entertainment business

In the 1930's Broadway experienced a major crisis, the invention of film with sound!

Most theaters were turned into film houses

There are 40 Broadway theaters, some which aren't even on the street!
