PRESENTATION OUTLINE

HOLES BY LOUIS SACHAR

Made by Julia Scherer

SLIDE 1

  • The protagonist/ main chararcter of this novel is Stanley Yelnats
  • Stanley is genourous and truthful. I picked these two characteristics because of his personality. I chose generous because Stanley helps Zero learn how to read and write. Lastly I chose truthful because Stanley tells that he stole the shoes from the homeless shelter and knew that there was a serious punishment.

SLIDE 2

  • Stanley gets sent to a camp because he steals shoes from the homeless shelter because he could not afford very much. Overall the cleats belonged to the legend "Sweet Feet."
  • The Judge gave him the option between jail and camp green lake and he picked camp green lake.
  • Some other characters are Zero, Warden, Mr. Sir, Stanley's Lawyer, Mr. Pandanske, Kissing Kate Barlow, and Sam

SLIDE 3

  • The setting of this novel is at Camp Green Lake.
  • The person who tells this novel is an outside observer.
  • I would consider the climax when Stanley and Zero are trapped in a hole full of yellow spotted lizards and can not get out or move because if the two boys move and get bit they would die because of the poison.

SLIDE 4

  • I think the mood of this setting is exausted, mad, and exciting. The author establishes this mood by going to being mad at the beginning because he got caught by police and had to take the punishment for being a theif. Also chose exauseted because Stanley and all of the other boys have to dig holes as a punishment all day everyday, after doing this for awhile it would get very tiring. Finally, I chose exciting because at the end of the novel Stanley's Lawyer comes and gets him and Zero. The camp goes out of buissness, so everybody who went to camp was released and got sent home. Stanley had a giant party and got to hang with his bestfriends!
  • I think the theme of this story is when you are accused of doing something be honest and truthful no matter how serious the punishment may be.

SLIDE 5

  • Lastly I would rate this novel very strong. The reason why I rated this novel strong was because he takes the blame for something he did do even when there is a serious punishment behind this. Stanley went through this agreement and started to make friends the longer he was at camp. The flow of this story is very smooth, everything goes together as one big chapter book. There was not a part that I secretly questioned in my head! This novel by far is one of my many favorites!
