PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Bois de Boulogne is the second largest public park in Paris, smaller than Bois de Vincennes which is located in the eastern side of the city.

Bois de Boulogne was created between 1852 and 1858 during the reign of the Emperor Louis Napoleon.

The Bois de Boulogne is a remnant of the ancient oak forest of rouvray.

Its name came from a chapel, Notre Dame de Boulogne la Petite, which was built in the forest at the command of Philip IV of France.

The park was the subject of the paintings of many artists, including Eduard Manet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Vincent van Gogh.

People do activities as biking, jogging, boat rowing, horseback and pony rides, and remote control speed boat in the forest.

The last part of the Paris Marathon ends by crossing the Bois de Boulogne from 35 km.

Stade Roland Garros (which hosts the French Open) is located at the southern boundary of the Bois de Boulogne.
