SOCIAL LIFE AND PREDITORS

  • Bighorn Sheep live in herds of 8 to10 members. Sometimes, herds of up to 100 members are spotted.
  • Due to their special daptations and elusive behaior, Bighorn Sheep are difficult to track
  • Rams don't always get along, it's their natural instinct. The male Bighorns, or Rams, battle eachother to gain higher dominance and possesion over the female Bighorns, or the ewes. The Rams "ram" eachother from a distance of 20 feet and the one who can't continue loses.
  • Bighorns live in separate groups due to their gender. Their is one group of Rams, and one group of ewes.
  • Both groups gather from July to October for the breesing season but in the Desert, breeding can happen at any time due to the weather. pregnancy lasts from 150 to 180 days. The lambs are usually born in winter.
