The battle took place in the afternoon and set off for the Delaware where they embarked in a flotilla of the characteristic Delaware river boats.

There were 2,400 American troops who had 18 guns. The main American force under Washington entered Trenton from the North-West. The remainder went North East, cutting of hessians retreat.

Casualties: The Americans suffered 4 wounded casualties. Two American soldiers froze to death. The Hessians suffered 20 killed and around 100 wounded. 1,000 were captured.

General Howe thought the war was already a victory. The important thing was that they made it home with boosted spirits, knowing that independence was not impossible when people worked together as one.
