1100 - Aztecs left their hometown in search of a new home
1375 - Acamapichtli becomes first ruler of Aztecs
1400 - Tepanecs were defeated
1458 - Moctezuma sent armies to conquer lands.
1486 - Ahuizotu became ruler

GODS
Chalchiuhtlicue – goddess of the lakes and streams
Chantico – goddess of the hearth
Chicomecoatl – goddess of maize
Coatlicue – goddess for the pain of life
Huehuetectim - god of fire
Huitzilopochtli – god of war, sun and the nation
Mictlantecuhtl – god of the dead
Quetzalcoatl - god of knowledge, creation, priesthood, and wind
Tezcatlipoca – god of magic, war and death
Tezcatlipoca – god of speech and language
Tlaloc – god of rain
Tloque Nahuaque - god of everywhere, the one supreme force, both male and female
Xipe Totec – god of spring and new life, god of suffering
Xochipilli - prince of flowers, god of dawn, dance and love

The Aztecs arrived in Mesoamerica around the beginning of the 13th century.
Hernan Cortes overthrew the Aztecs by force and captured Tenochtitlan in 1521, bringing an end to Mesoamerica’s last great native civilization.

Economy/ Agriculture
Aztec economy was based upon agriculture, corn being the most important crop.

They also had elaborate irrigation systems, which allowed them to farm dry lands. They farmed shallow lakes by scooping up mud and forming islands called chinampas.

FACTS
At its height, the Aztec empire contained 200,000 square kilometres of land and 3 million people.
They were farmers, warriors, traders, engineers, artists and sculptures.

The Aztecs believed that a god had sent them a sign telling them where to live.
The sign was an eagle with a serpint in its mouth which was was perched on a cactus.
