Cape Hatteras Location
-Cape Hatteras Light is located on Hatteras Island, Outer Banks of North Carolina
-Cape Hatteras Light and Visitor Center official address is 46368 Old Lighthouse Road, Buxton, North Carolina
-The lighthouse is located not to far from Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Brothers flew the first airplane
-The lighthouse is located of Hwy 12 near the small town of Buxton, North Carolina
-The famous lighthouse is currently located 15,00 feet from the shoreline

Cape Hatteras History
-The original lighthouse was built in 1803 and the current lighthouse was built in 1870
-Construction began on the lighthouse in 1854 to increase the height of the lighthouse from 90 feet to 150 feet
-The lighthouse had construction in 1870 to increase the again, from 150 feet to 210 feet, this was the final time the lighthouse's height had to be increased
-Cape Hatteras Lighthouse has had many lighthouse keepers in the past, that cranked the gears at night
-Cape Hatteras Lighthouse survived throughout the Civil War, which took place on Hatteras Island

-The lighthouse is open for visitors year-round
-The base of the lighthouse consists of 1,250,000 red bricks
-The Hatteras Lighthouse has 2 black and white spiral areas, with a red-brick base
-The lighthouse was originally on the shore, but was brought back due to erosion
- The lighthouse was brought back so it didn't fall into the ocean due to erosion
