EXTERNAL CONFLICT

  • External conflict is conflict you can see.
  • This includes: man vs. man
  • Man vs. nature, man vs. supernatural
  • Man vs. society, man vs. technology

MAN VS MAN

  • Man vs. Man conflict is ine character against another
  • This is an external conflict
  • Two boxers are forced to fight it out in the ring

MAN VS NATURE

  • Man vs. Nature isa conflict against man and nature
  • Nature can include the weather, animals, climate, etc.
  • This is external conflict
  • Godzilla goes on a journey to destroy Tokoyo once and for all

MAN VS SOCIETY

  • Man vs. Society is a conflict between a character and the natuons culture
  • This is an external conflict
  • In the early 1900's, African-American's had little to no rights

MAN VS SUPERNATURAL

  • Man vs. Supernatural is a conflict between a character and the supermatural
  • The supernatural incoudes ghosts, zombies, phantoms, magic, witches, etc.
  • This is an external conflict
  • Shaggy and Scooby are running from the scary phantom at the graveyard.

MAN VS TECHNOLOGY

  • Man vs. Technology involves man fighting against any kind of technology
  • This is an external conflict
  • Detective Del Spooner must fight off herds of robots to save man kind

INTERNAL CONFLICT

  • Internal conflict is a conflict you can't see
  • This only includes man vs. self

MAN VS SELF

  • Man vs. self is a conflict between the character and himself
  • This includes thoughts of suicide, depression, guilt, etc.
  • This is internal conflict
  • A man struggles to fight off his long-lasting depression

CAUSE AND EFFECT

  • Cause and effect is when one event causes another
  • This is very common in everyday life
  • By spilling the drink, the boy stained the carpet
  • By staining the carpet, the boy got yelled at by his mom

STEREOTYPING

  • A widely held genarilization about a group of people
  • Examples: Canadiens are stereotyped as very apologetic
  • Southerners are stereotyped as rednecks

PROPOGANDA

  • Propoganda is biased/misleading imformation promoting a viewpoint
  • This is used through advertisement
  • The nazis put up posters implying that jews cant be trusted

ALLEGORY

  • A fictional representation of an event in history

DENOTATION

  • Strict dictionary meaning of a word

  • Emotional association with a word
  • Feeling because of experience with a word
  • Shed makes me think of my grandpas house
  • Which makes me feel happy
