  • Should be starting point! Do not cite to papers generally!
  • General or specific encyclopedias
  • General book on specific subject
  • Thesaurus: general or in specific subject
  • Dictionary

HOW DO I KNOW MY SOURCE IS CREDIBLE/SCHOLARLY?

  • Article is SIX pages or more
  • "Journal" or "review" is in title
  • Source is official publication of professional organization
  • Credentials of author
  • Article has abstract (summary) at the beginning

CREDIBLE INTERNET SOURCES

  • .gov sites=government information
  • .edu=most sites are good
  • .org=some sites are good
  • Only use Wikipedia as a lead to other verified sources
  • Avoid .com sites where possible

PAPER CITATIONS

In-text citation: occurs in text of essay giving only brief information of source expressed in proper citation style (MLA, APA, Chicago style)

Full citation: full source information expressed in proper citation style

PAPER CITATIONS
In-text citations ONLY occur in the text of essays; full citations ONLY occur at the end of essays in a Works Cited or references page
One should NEVER have brief citations in a paper without their corresponding full citations at the end--or vice versa.
