It began with an idea

The Community iFair began with an idea for sharing some of our successes with 1:1 learning and then it grew into a Community Event.

We'd like to thank all of the participants of tonight's ifair. We have over 40 staff members from across the district and more than 60 students participating tonight.

We also have parent volunteers, representatives from both the Mendon and Upton libraries, as well as our support team from Apple.

It truly is a community event!

Mendon-Upton 1:1 Learning ensures that all students use technology to communicate, collaborate, and innovate in their learning. Students are taught to use technology responsibly and meaningfully, providing them with a competitive advantage for the challenges of the 21st century.

Our vision for 1:1 learning is to ensure that all of our students use technology to communicate, collaborate, and innovate in their learning.

Tonight you will see numerous examples of how technology has provided our students with a competitive advantage to meet the challenges for the 21st century.

The integration of technology into exemplary teaching and high quality curriculum ensures our students leave Mendon-Upton with the skills to create solutions for a rapidly-changing, technologically-rich, and culturally-diverse world.

Our district strategic plan identifies technology integration as a core piece for moving our district forward.

Our strategic investments over the past few years have created an environment where we are able to create new opportunities for our students to be prepared for our rapidly-changing world.

MURSD Communication

Tonight you will see evidence of how technology is helping students develop effective literacy and communication skills.

Some examples in this area include early literacy tools like Raz-Kids and Reading Wonders, interactive language apps for Spanish, or sessions on how to use Google communication tools.

Want to learn about how to use some of the tools yourself, check out Twitter, Evernote, Wunderlist, and Google Calendar.

MURSD Collaboration

Since our district has embraced 1:1 learning, evidence of collaboration has increased. Students can be seen frequently collaborating on assignments through Google documents, creating group videos to demonstrate learning, and working together using iPads to collect and analyze data in science classes.

Looking to learn more about collaboration tools this evening-be sure to check out the newscast showcase and sessions on Edmodo, iPads and Data Collection, and Google Classroom.

MURSD Innovation

The dictionary definition of innovate is to introduce something new or to make changes to something established by introducing new methods, ideas, or products.

Across our district, we have numerous examples of innovation in action. Tonight you will see some examples including creative 3D printing products, digitally produced music, and computer coding.

.

With over 60 student representatives from across the district, please take an opportunity to ask them questions and have them share with you what they are inventing, designing, creating, and sharing.

iFair Schedule

  • Four Tech Presentation Sessions: 20 min each in classrooms
  • Tech Showcases: 20+ in the halls and the library
  • Open Format
Technology sessions are a combination of presentation and practice and will be held in classrooms, all of which are on this floor. Please proceed to the sessions that appeal to you and if you are not interested in a session you’ve gone to, we have an open format where you can just get up and leave and go to a different session location.

You may also choose to not attend a formal session and spend time in the lobby, hallways and media center visiting our technology showcases.

These showcases allow you to experience hands-on technology, see best practices in action, and have your technology questions answered.
