IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM

  • We need to create a device
  • that is able to transmit a coded
  • message from one room to
  • another without using any other
  • forms of communication.

RESEARCH
Really the only research we conducted for this project was a sheet for encoding and decoding morse code. We had researched how to build a radio receiver but ended up using an RC car instead.

Possible Solutions

  • Single light, control switch, wired
  • Two lights, RC car /w magnet, wireless
  • Two lights, RC car /w hardwire, wireless
  • Single light, homemade telegraph

OUR SOLUTION
We chose to use an RC car to send radio signals to the receiver. Based on the direction pushed on the controller, one of two lights lit up. For the return, we had to use a wired yes/no.

PROTOTYPE
Creating our prototype took several days and we often encountered problems making connections between wires. At one point our car fried due to the AC adapter and we had to replace it.

Testing and evaluating

  • Message sent: go rangers
  • Message got: go rangers
  • Succeeded?: yes
  • Video presented by Jayce

REDESIGN
This device could be improved by replacing the wired return signal with another RC car and making a two-way communication device. This costs money however and is just a thought.
