COMMERCE & SLAVE TRADE COMPROMISE

  • Congress could not tax state exports or interfere with slave trade.
  • It prohibited changes to regulate slave trade for two decades.

The effect of the Commerce and Slave Trade Compromise was that for the next 20 years the number of imported slaves increased significantly from the previous year.

The Slave Trade Compromise was one of the causes of the Civil War.
